Grand Opening for Lalor Campaign Office
East Fishkill, NY/ March 29, 2008 – Kieran Michael Lalor,
Republican
candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th district, officially
opened his
East Fishkill campaign headquarters today.
“We’re leading the Republican party into the 21st century,”
Lalor told a
room lined with over 40 supporters. “With forward-looking
solutions for
health care, energy independence and the economy we can restore
leadership
to Washington. Congress does not understand the challenges and
hopes of
everyday voters. But, I’m wrestling with the same challenges, I
fight
through the same obstacles, and I share the same hopes.”
“People want change and I represent a fresh generation of
leaders. I’m a
stocky, bald, Irish Barack Obama, except I’m running on issues
not
rhetoric,” Lalor joked.
Lalor continued, describing the office, “The Joe Torre Yankees
showed that
a successful team reflects its manager. A good campaign is going
to
reflect its candidate. It is an unassuming building, but a high
profile
location, in the heart of the district, on a busy road. For this
level of
visibility, you would pay thousands in advertising. We get
walk-in
traffic on a street where nobody walks. Before the opening a man
stopped
by, curious about the new office and we discovered a new
supporter.”
“Like the campaign, the building makes the most of its
strengths. The
building has deep roots in the community and has been a part of
the town
holding a variety of businesses, from a bike shop to a video
store to a
contractor’s office. I’ve served the Hudson Valley as a teacher
and a
Marine. I’m not a millionaire, so I’ve held on to the night
shift union
job that paid for law school so I can take care of my family and
run for Congress. I’m proud to be here working hard for my family and my
community.”
Lalor thanked Dutchess County Republican Committee Chairwoman
Corrine
Weber, Wappingers Supervisor Chris Colsey, former county
legislator Mary
Swartz, and East Fishkill American Legion President Dana
Verissimo for
attending the event. Supporters from Port Jervis to Cortlandt
attended
the event, revealing the grassroots strength of the campaign.
On highly-traveled Route 52 in East Fishkill, the office gives
the
campaign high visibility in one of largest towns in the
district. Easy
access to I-84, the Taconic, and Route 9 allows the campaign to
spread out
across the large 19th district. John Jay High School, a large
technology
business complex, and a major youth soccer complex that draws
families
from around the district are all within 1 mile on Route 52.
