Hall's FISA
Vote
Irresponsible
and Extreme
East
Fishkill,
NY/July 9, 2008
- Kieran
Michael Lalor,
the Republican
Congressional
candidate and
Iraq war veteran
who will
challenge
first-term
Democrat John
Hall this
November,
strongly
criticized Hall
for yet another
outside the
mainstream
vote. Hall
voted against an
amendment to the
Foreign
Intelligence
Surveillance Act
(House Roll Call
6304) which
passed with a
supermajorities
in the House
(293-120) and
Senate (69-28).
"John Hall's
opposition to
the FISA
Amendment is an
extreme position
that
demonstrates a
naïve
misunderstanding
of national
security," Lalor
said. "105 House
Democrats voted
for the bill,
including
neighboring
House Democrats
Nita Lowey,
Kristen
Gillibrand,
Eliot Engel and
six other New
York Democrats.
Hall's vote is
plainly
irresponsible
and extreme."
The FISA
Amendment would
protect
telecommunications
companies from
facing lawsuits
simply for
cooperating with
federal law
enforcement
wiretaps used to
thwart terrorist
attacks.
"John Hall is
out of touch
with the people
of the Hudson
Valley," Lalor
said. "With
American
security and the
security of New
York directly at
stake, Hall
sided with trial
attorneys.
This is a
terrible message
from someone who
accepted more
than $125,000 in
campaign
donations from
lawyers in this
election cycle,
including $8,000
from a trial
lawyers PAC.";
Lalor continued,
"On every major
vote involving
national
security and
veterans,
whether it is
funding for
mine-resistant
vehicles or the
21st
Century GI Bill,
Hall has gotten
it wrong. He
often votes with
a tiny minority
of extremists in
Congress," Lalor
added.
Below is a list
of votes Hall
has cast on
National
Security and
Veterans issues.
Frequently, for
political
expediency, Hall
votes for a
measure during
preliminary
voting but votes
against the
measure during
the
all-important
final vote.
Added Lalor
spokesman Chris
Covucci, "Hall
loves to use the
John Kerry dodge
‘I voted for it
before I voted
against it' to
muddy the
waters."
John Hall's Voting Record on National Security and
Veterans Issuess
1.
Hall voted
against the
21st Century GI
Bill and
then had the
audacity to send
out a press
release claiming
that "Hall
Helps Pass
Historic
Legislation to
Double Current
Veterans'
Education
Benefits"
Hall Press
Release
The measure
passed 268-155
no thanks to
Hall.
(House Roll Call
431, June 19,
2008)
2.
Hall voted
against
appropriations
to immediately
build and ship
mine resistant
vehicles,
despite the fact
that 70% of
American
casualties in
Iraq result from
roadside attacks
on American
vehicles. (House
Roll Call 425,
May 24, 2007)
The Measure
passed 280-142
no thanks to
Hall.
3. Hall
followed the
Democrat
leadership's
lead, voting to
weaken our
nation's
intelligence
laws and to
reopen the
terrorist
loophole. (House
Roll Call 1120,
November 15,
2007).
4. Hall
voted against
full funding for
the construction
of the border
fence as
mandated by
Congress. (House
Roll Call 490,
June 15, 2007)
5. Hall
voted with the
Democrat
leadership to
block a motion
aimed at
protecting
housing for
America's
homeless and
disabled
veterans.(House
Roll Call 714,
Jul 24,
2007)
6. Hall
put partisan
politics above
the needs of
troops and
commanders on
the ground by
voting for a
Democrat-sponsored
bill mandating
extension of
troop
deployments
overseas. (House
Roll Call 795,
August 2, 2007)
7. Rather
than actually
working to
increase the pay
of our
servicemen and
women, Hall
co-sponsored a
meaningless
resolution
expressing the
sense of
Congress
that Congress
and the
President should
increase basic
pay for members
of the Armed
Forces. (H.Con.Res.
162, November 6,
2007)
