SAUL CAMPAIGN
LAUNCHES WEBSITE BUT REFUSES TO STATE ANY POSITIONS
Peekskill, NY /
August 22, 2007 –
Republican fat cat
and Manhattanite Andrew Saul made a fortune selling women’s
clothing and outsourcing labor to hostile countries with
questionable human rights records. His company sold the
garments at exorbitant prices that few in the 19th
Congressional District could afford. On this basis Saul wants
to be our Congressman.
In May, Saul told the Journal News that, “In the next two
to three months, I'll talk about the issues, but right now it is
about the voters and understanding their needs first."
Curiously, at the time, Saul took no positions regarding
important issues facing voters in this District. And even now,
Saul is still not saying anything. In fact, the Saul Campaign
recently launched a website – one that is conspicuously lacking
any reference to a principle or policy position. He doesn’t
propose a single solution to any issues facing voters in this
District.
By contrast, Republican rival Kieran Michael Lalor has been
crystal clear as to where he stands on important issues and
offers innovative, bold solutions. Of Saul’s strange silence on
the issues, Lalor asked, “How could someone running to be our
sole voice in the House of Representatives be unable to
articulate a single thing that he stands for? His site says,
‘Give me money, volunteer for me, and help me get elected.’ But
not a word about what he believes in.”
Incredibly, Saul isn’t even certain where he lives. In March
2007 he tried to buy the support of the RNCC with a donation of
$25,000 using a Manhattan address. A month later, he gave
thousands more to the RNC using a Katonah address. And the
month after that, Saul sent yet more money to a fellow
multi-millionaire candidate using his Manhattan address.
Federal Election Commission filings indicate that Saul is
equally unsure of which type of candidates he supports. He
claims to be a Republican but has donated thousands to liberals
like Ted Kennedy and Bill Bradley.
Saul’s lack of principles is accompanied by a crass arrogance.
According to a May 23rd Journal News report,
Saul “would have liked to see his daughter, Jennifer Saul Yaffa,
who is chairwoman of the Manhattan Republican Party, pick up the
challenge, but she's too busy looking after her 5-year-old
daughter.” Of this statement Lalor said mockingly “Halleluiah!
The whole Saul gang is going to take the Bentley up from the big
city to save us from ourselves because we bumpkins in the Hudson
Valley aren’t capable of sending one of our own to Washington.”
When asked by a reporter if he thought Saul’s corporate
background gives him an advantage, Lalor replied, “The most
important issue of our time is national security. While I was
defending the country in Iraq and conducting rescue operations
after Hurricane Katrina, Andrew Saul was doing business
with China and defending investments in Iran and Sudan. I
am certain that my friends and neighbors in the 19th
Congressional District will recognize what counts.”
Saul’s campaign slogan claims that he is “An Independent Voice.”
Of this Lalor asked, “How could Saul claim to be ‘independent’
when he is a Bush and Pataki appointee, has donated suitcases of
cash to dozens of politicians and his very first step toward
running for Congress was to go down to DC and bow before the
Washington establishment?”
Lalor concluded, “Saul has already spent a bundle on consultants
to carefully craft his campaign image. Perhaps he should invest
in a spine.” For more information:
