Michael Lalor Challenges Congressman John Hall’s Bizarre Silence
on Illegal Immigration Problem
Peekskill, NY / June 27, 2007 – In the last several
months Congressman John Hall has proven that he is every bit the
far-left politician he was when he won the affections of Jane
Fonda and anti-American activists within the Democratic Party.
Hall’s disgraceful capitulation to America’s enemies – from the
floor of the U.S. Congress – was unfortunately only a preview.
When it comes to illegal immigration, though, John Hall isn’t
talking. He isn’t telling us what he thinks, despite the fact
that illegal immigration is one of the most pressing problems on
the minds of voters in the 19th Congressional
District.
As many of my supporters have said, John Hall must tell the
voters what his position is on illegal immigration. All of us in
the 19th Congressional District have a right to know
the Congressman’s views on immigration, and whether they’re as
out of tune as Hall’s far left positions on issues like national
security, energy, and taxes.
Voters deserve leadership on immigration, and not more
capitulation from John Hall. As as native of Wappingers Falls
and a lifelong resident of this District, I know that the issue
too important to ignore. I have seen first-hand the destructive
effects of illegal immigration in places like Peekskill, Port
Jervis, and Beacon. And unlike John Hall, I want voters to know
where I stand on the issue.
First, we must secure America’s borders,
rather than paying border security “lip service.” This can only
happen if we build a wall on the most porous stretches of the
U.S./Mexico border and make good use both “virtual wall”
technology and existing federal enforcement resources.
Second, any illegal discovered by law
enforcement must be deported. Period. A single illegal
immigrant in Mount Kisco ran afoul of the law more than 300
times, but was never deported. U.S. policy must also recognize,
and take advantage of the fact, that a good deal of the illegal
immigrant population come and go through a “revolving door.”
There must be strong disincentives for those re-enter our
country after being deported. Here, I would propose a minimum
5-year prison term for such offenders.
Third, we must end the disgraceful loophole
that allows illegals to use “anchor babies” to strong-arm their
way into America. This is not only bad immigration policy, but
it degrades innocent human life. Babies are babies – and
federal policy cannot stand by silently and allow them to be
pawns.
Fourth, the federal government must be
committed to prosecuting the enablers – including businesses
that break the law using illegals for low-income labor (often in
unsafe conditions), as well as the slumlords who profit from the
dangerous nuisance of illegal housing.
This is where I stand on illegal immigration. But the question
remains: Where do you stand, Congressman Hall? Why
are you dodging this issue while voters in the 19th
Congressional District are bearing the burden? Each and every
day our schools and hospitals and law enforcement are being
overrun before our very eyes, and Congressman Hall is watching
the problem fester making political calculations rather than
providing leadership. It’s hard to dispute that Hall himself
has become another enabler.
