Why Won’t Hall Defend 19th District Hero?
Peekskill, NY / September 12, 2007 –General
David Petraeus is a product of New York’s 19th
Congressional District. He was born and raised in Cornwall, New
York and is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West
Point. As he was about to testify before Congress regarding the
Iraq war, the far left group MoveOn.org ran a full page
advertisement in the New York Times referring to General
Petraeus as “General Betray Us.” The ad claimed that the
General, who was unanimously confirmed by the Senate early this
year, was going to be dishonest in his testimony.
The slander of General Petraeus was a
calculated tactic by Congressional Democrats. According to the
scheme, elected Democrats were to be respectful of Petraeus but
let outsiders bash him. The Hill Newspaper quoted an anonymous
Democratic senator who said, "No one wants to call [Petraeus] a
liar on national TV. The expectation is that the outside groups
will do this for us."
It is clear that Hall is against the war
and devoted to a U.S. defeat in Iraq. What is not clear is why
Hall would not defend the integrity of a man who hails from his
district and was educated at West Point where Hall occupies a
seat on the Board of Visitors. According to Kieran Michael
Lalor, an Iraq vet aggressively exploring a run against Hall,
“I’m shocked that Hall has not defended this man who is perhaps
the most prominent person from the 19th District and
who has a reputation that is beyond reproach.”
But for MoveOn.org John Hall would not have
been elected last fall. Said Lalor, “Evidently Hall is
desperate to again get the money and support that MoveOn
provides far left anti-military candidates.”
Another group allied to John Hall through
his membership in the Progressive Democrats of America is Code
Pink an organization that pickets wounded servicemen at Walter
Reed. Members of Code Pink repeatedly interrupted General
Petraeus’ testimony on Monday with screams of “War Criminal.”
Hall has refused to condemn this atrocious behavior by his
supporters.
Of Hall's refusal to defend Petraeus, Lalor
said, “This is what Hall does. He has stealthily stabbed our
military and veterans in the back his entire term. He voted to
defund our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Despite the fact
that 70% of U.S. casualties come from roadside attacks on
American vehicles, he voted against appropriations to
immediately build and ship mine-resistant humvees to the front.
He broke his promise to withhold the bonuses of VA officials
until the backlog of veteran’s claims is reduced.”
Lalor continued, “Hall’s election was
funded and staffed by the most anti-military and anti-veteran
elements in our society. He can pretend to be pro-military and
pro-veteran to gain a political advantage all he wants, but
every few weeks we see his true colors. Allowing General
Petraeus to be slandered by his core supporters is just the
latest in a long line of anti-military, anti-veteran behavior on
Hall’s part. The media cannot cover up this up forever.”

York’s 19th Congressional District.
